DIFFICULTIES AND SOLUTIONS IN SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH OF FFL STUDENTS, NGUYEN TAT THANH UNIVERSITY

Scientific research is a very useful activity that is taken consideration from Nguyen Tat Thanh University (NTTU) and its faculty of foreign languages (FFL) as well. Over the past few years, students’ scientific research activity at NTTU has increasingly improved in quantity and quality at some faculties. However, this activity at the FFL is still limited. The number of articles published in its school’s scientific journal and other ones across the country is still modest. The quality of these articles is not high. This derives from different reasons.

First, students are not fully equipped with knowledge of scientific research. Second, they are still confused about choosing suitable titles for their articles. Third, they have not actively contacted with instructors to guide them how to write scientific articles yet. Fourth, students do not recognize the importance of scientific research. Fifth, students are still weak at presenting and analyzing data for their papers. Sixth, students have not been able to connect between their research and the application in practice. Seventh, scientific research is a quite difficult field for students, it requires each student’s passion and persistence. Therefore, not all students can do good at scientific research, which depends on individual’s passion and learning ability.

To promote the scientific research movement among students, especially the ones of the FFL, we need to take some following measures:
First, students need to equip with basic knowledge of the scientific paper writing. Second, students need to employ the knowledge of Scientific Research Methodology (SRM) subject into naming the article title appropriately. Third, SRM teachers need to increasingly support students in editing their articles and selecting well-qualified ones to publish on suitable journals. Fourth, the FFL and SRM teachers help students see the importance of scientific research, especially its school policy to timely reward students who have scientific articles published on prestigious journals. Fifth, the teachers frequently trains students useful knowledge and form of presenting a scientific research article appropriate with the international standard, and guiding students some qualitative and quantitative data analysis softwares for writing scientific papers. Sixth, in teaching the SRM, teachers need to link scientific research to its result application into practice and encourage students to do their researches with instructors. Seventh, the SRM teachers actively look for students good at article writing, guide them to edit their papers to have the best products published in scientific journals.

With some suggestions above, I hope that the scientific research movement among students of FFL at NTTU will be improved considerably. Particularly, there will be more and more students participating in writing scientific papers published in prestigious domestic and foreign journals.
