The traditional role of language teachers is evolving. They are now facilitators of learning rather than sole knowledge providers. This shift requires teachers to be proficient not only in language instruction but also in technology integration. However, for novice language teachers, these changes bring many challenges.
Technological Proficiency: Novice teachers often lack the training to effectively use AI tools. They must navigate a plethora of platforms, each with its own functionalities and interfaces, which can be overwhelming. The rapid pace of technological change means that teachers must continuously update their skills. This can be particularly challenging for novices who are still mastering basic teaching techniques.
Balancing Technology and Pedagogy: There is a risk of over-relying on AI tools, which can lead to a passive learning experience.
