Teachers in the digital age not only need to excel in specialized knowledge, pedagogical skills, and other related skills, but also must be equipped with digital competencies \u2013 a key factor in helping them \u201csurvive\u201d and assert themselves in the new era.<\/p>\n
On November 10, 2022, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in partnership with Meta Group, announced the development of the first digital competency framework for Vietnamese students. This framework includes seven main competency categories:<\/p>\n
– Operating equipment and software; – Information and data competency;<\/p>\n
– Communication and collaboration in the digital environment<\/p>\n
– Digital content creation;<\/p>\n
– \u00a0Cybersecurity and safety;<\/p>\n
– Developing digital skills;<\/p>\n
– \u00a0Digital competencies related to the profession.<\/p>\n
Teachers’ digital competencies are centered on the ability to use teaching equipment such as projectors, interactive TVs, etc., software such as PowerPoint, Kahoot, Mentimeter, etc., platforms such as Google Meet, LMS, etc., searching, and evaluating information, as well as communicating with students on LMS platforms and social networks.<\/p>\n
First and foremost, digital competencies help teachers improve teaching practices. In fact, employing technological tools such as online learning platforms, presentation software, or interactive applications makes lectures more exciting, visual, and engaging. Teachers can conduct diverse learning activities such as online group discussions, quizzes, or surveys via Slido. This not only stimulates students\u2019 interest but also helps them acquire knowledge in various ways.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, digital competencies support teachers in classroom management and learning assessment. Learning management systems (LMS) necessitate progress tracking, assignments saving, automatic grading, and rapid analysis of results. This enables teachers to personalize learning, promptly identify students\u2019 problems, and offer radical solutions.<\/p>\n
Digital competencies also include the ability to search, evaluate, and select information online. In this digital era, teachers must learn how to identify reliable sources and prevent the spread of misinformation. Simultaneously, they must guide students in developing these skills, contributing to the formation of critical thinking and autonomous learning abilities.<\/p>\n
